Top 5 Things Our Dog Taught Us About Office Manners
It’s National Take Your Pet to Work Week! While our JRT is much too excitable for a corporate office setting, he has taught us a lot about office manners and etiquette. Scroll down to read the top 5 things our dog taught us about office manners.
We also chat about Becca’s favorite reasons for working from home with Carson. For Dogs in The News, we discuss Amazon’s dog-friendly culture. Then we finish with your Puppy Parent Replies about working from home with your pups!
1. Avoid Scheduling Meetings on Monday Mornings
Especially between 8 and 9 AM. It’s too early and stressful coming off the weekend, AND because that is when the garbage truck comes. Carson seems to have a personal vendetta against the garbage truck; he tells it off as it goes up one side of the street and then again as it goes down the other.
2. If a Co-worker Enters Your Office, They Probably Need Something From You.
Whether it’s a quick scratch behind the ear, or food, or a walk, Carson’s pretty good about letting us know what he needs, thus how long we’ll be pulled (sometimes physically) away from the desk.
3. Have the Courage to Ask Questions.
It’s always good to ask clarifying questions when you’ve been tasked with a project. What are the objectives? What is the deadline? Do you need to go potty? Do you want a cookie? Is it time for a walk?
4. Don’t Talk Back to Your Boss.
That doesn’t mean you can’t disagree with an idea or strategy, but it’s best to choose your words and tone wisely. Every Jack Russell parent knows that Jacks will always one-up you in an argument. Avoid elevating things unnecessarily, and always submit complaints to your boss and especially your Jack Russell in writing.
5. Leave Your Negative Emotions Outside of the Office.
It’s best to leave your negative emotions at the door when you get to work. Carson sometimes wakes up in a right foul mood; he is just grumpy and takes it out on us. If your co-worker comes to work this way, just give them some peanut butter and send them back to bed.
